Located in the heart of the Tuscan countryside is a beautiful agritourism resort called Al Gelso Bianca and I was lucky to spend two beautiful days and nights there on my recent trip to Italy. Close to San Gimignano, Florence, and Siena, this is the perfect place set up a base and explore the region at your leisure.
A friend of mine visited Al Gelso Bianco for a cooking class with her family last year and could not stop raving about it. It’s a lovely thing to include in your plans if you are day tripping in the area. Its only 35 km’s from Florence so it’s feasible to travel from there too. If you want to stay, you can choose from a range of well equipped and luxurious self-catering apartments based on how big your family is and family is definitely a focus here. In fact, The Guardian voted it in the top 10 destinations for a summer family holiday in Europe.
If you are like me and frequently have fantasies about living in Tuscany you will definitely want to visit this area. It is best to do this with a car so you can come and go and explore the nearby towns. As I was traveling on my own, I was a little restricted in terms of getting around but was more than happy to spend the full two days at Al Gelso Bianco after 12 days of hectic city living in Venice, Bologna, and Florence. I got to see how they make biscotti and tasted their lovely range of wines.
They run regular cooking classes for children and adults or families and I got to attend the pasta making class on the one afternoon. We watched and lightly helped make a few delicious dishes, which we got to enjoy afterwards in a hearty feast with the farms own wine. With spectacular sunsets, gorgeous views of Tuscan rolling hills from a working wine & olive oil farm, Al Gelso Bianco was a treat.
