roast chicken & italian sausage with herbs and orange

roast chicken and italian sausage tray bake

I seem to have been on a roast chicken mission recently born mainly out of a desire to clear out my freezer stocks. I have 3 freezers – one chest, which seems to reach maximum capacity very quickly. I hate wasting food so freeze any scrap of leftovers I can. This on top if being a food stylist where any excess shoot food that is freezable gets tossed in. I had these chicken pieces and amazing Sicilians sausages from Giovanni’s so decided to combine in a saucy tray bake with fingerling fir potatoes (delicious) and loads of seasonings. sweet potato ‘noodles’ with chorizo and orange

sweet potato 'noodles' with chorizo and orange

I bought a large spiraliser while in the US and now find myself twisting all manner of vegetables into long thin ‘noodles’ and ribbons. Not only do they cook super quickly – thus I assume keeping more nutrients in and making them healthier, they have a wonderful texture and trick your brain into thinking you are eating an actual noodle. Brilliant. Low carb and nutritious meals all the time. My very favourite is zucchini in the ‘noodle’ format, which I love to simply stir fry with olive oil or Parmesan infused olive oil, salt and pepper and eat with lashings of freshly grated Parmesan cheese. You can find out how I do that here, but I happily eat them raw too and I’ve been spiralling them (I’m not sure this is even a word?) into all kinds of salads lately. Continue Reading →

I love blueberry pancakes for breakfast, and if you add ricotta to the batter you’ll get a much richer, fluffier and not as sweet result. This is perfect when you drizzle over maple syrup or honey. A dollop of Greek style yoghurt gives it creaminess and makes it even more breakfast like. I mean, we need to indulge every now and again. Continue Reading →

carrot and coriander soup with cumin and orange

carrot and coriander soup

Summer looks set to be well on its way here in Cape Town, but we must not forget all the storms and cold snaps that pass through as late as November. I know this because when I moved back to Cape Town nearly seven years ago, I arrived on the fifth of November to a rainy and cool Mother City. I rented a flat in Bantry Bay for the month, and during that time a violent storm ripped a tree out the garden. I remember needing an extra duvet on my bed for a lot of the time and even turned the heater on.

I’ve noted over the years since my return that we do get cold stormy spells and it even snowed on the mountains one Christmas. So this recipe is for then. Continue Reading →

I’ve been a little absent from these parts and my beloved Drizzle and Dip because life and work swept me away for a while. Over the last year I have been working on a huge project and I can finally say that I have just finished writing and producing my second cookbook. I handed it over to my publisher last week and I’m so ridiculously excited. I can’t say too much about the theme of the book other than it will be very different to my first and is aligned very closely with my biggest foodie passions.

It’s been on the cards for a while and was originally going to be published by Penguin, but then it got caught up with the merger with Random House. So now I’m being published by Penguin Random House South Africa, and as South Africa’s biggest publisher of cookbooks, I’m very happy about this. I’ve got a long time to wait before its published but already I cannot wait. Continue Reading →
