go on a wineflies tour

Wineflies Wine Tour to Stellenbosch

I was invited to experience a Winefllies tour to Stellenbosch recently and I’m so glad I went along. We are mid harvest, so being on a wine farm is awesome right now. You get to see the grapes being harvested, picked, and brought into the cellar for the first pressing. It’s basically the most exciting time of year in wine production and when all the action happens.

Of course visiting wine farms to taste wine and eat delicious food in a beautiful setting is a good idea any time of the year and Winelflies offers daily scheduled tours departing from Cape Town. As much as this is great for tourists visiting the city and looking for a small and well-curated winelands experience, it’s also fab for locals who feel like a day out without the bother of driving. Their prices are really reasonable, all-inclusive and the tours come with a knowledgeable guide. They can make up bespoke trips and private tours If you want to do specific farms and be on your own. pears poached in dessert wine with with a vanilla & honey no churn ice cream

The key ingredient in this delicious dessert is the exquisite KWV The Mentors Noble Late Harvest, and its the kind of dish you knock together to impress a few guests.

The pears are poached in a flavoured sugar syrup and then finished off in a second poach with Noble Late Harvest and honey. The sauce is reduced to a sticky syrup and poured back over the pears, and served with a scoop of divinely light – no – churn vanilla and honey ice cream. Continue Reading →

boschendal farm to table festival

Die Werf Restaurant on Boschendal Wine Estate

Boschendal Estate, Franschhoek

I spent this last week-end ensconced at Boschendal enjoying as many parts of the inaugural Farm to Table Festival as time would allow. You couldn’t get a better winelands setting to host a food festival of this nature. Nestled on the outskirts of Franschhoek with 3 mountain ranges in the distance, its jaw dropping beautiful. This farm walks the talk in terms of producing ethical food. From their organic food garden, to their free range eggs and pasture reared Angus beef. This is food of the highest quality and Boschendal played host to a handful of their own and other local experts who came along to share a part of their own food stories.

Utterly inspiring. Continue Reading →
