Malika van Reenen the head chef of Signal restaurant at the Cape Grace Hotel, and a handful of some of the best winemakers in the country have paired up to take you on a culinary adventure. Each month from May to November the restaurant will host a wine and dine evening with the wine maker from the particular estate, and Malika has crafted a special menu to accompany the wines.
I was lucky enough to attend last weeks dinner with Hamilton Russell Vineyards and Anthony Hamilton Russell.
The menu was ‘fast food nostalgia’:

The highlights on the food for me were the novel ‘fish and chips’ canape (grilled scallops on a potato crisp with salmon roe tartar), the ‘prawn cocktail’ and the rabbit sliders.

On the wines, the 2010 Chardonnay and the 2009 Pinot Noir (a legendary wine) were total knock outs and stood up to their brilliant reputation.

The following ‘Wine and Dine’ events are still to come:
29 September – Fairview Winery
27 October – Neil Ellis Wines
24 November – Paul Cluver Wines
These are are very special evenings with the opportunity to meet the winemakers and indulge in exquisite cuisine.
The dinners are R330 per person.
