I was intrigued to hear about the Vegan tasting menu offered this week at Signal Restaurant at the Cape Grace Hotel. I had known that they created incredible vegan dishes as part of the menu, and this week to honour ‘World Go Vegan Week’ they are offering this menu paired with wine for R350 (normally R55o pp).
It was an exquisite and delicate meal, well paired with a few fabulous wines.
I went with a friend who is a big eater and we both felt so satisfied with our five courses with not a smidgen of animal product involved.
This is what it was all about:
salad of raw, pickled and roasted vegetables, toasted pine nuts & rosemary agave vinaigrette
saltare ultra brut nv
sesame roasted shiitake mushrooms, rooibos & orange glazed butternut, sesame seed butter & bokchoy
ondine chenin blanc 2009
sweet potato lasagne, espresso balsamic reduction
constantia uitsig blend 2009
winter melon and lime sorbet
lemon-scented spiced quinoa pilau, roasted macadamia nuts, green apple & ginger
radford dale shiraz 2005
salted caramel tartlet with caramalised banana & pecan nut brittle
waterford family reserve nv heatherleigh
The espresso balsamic reduction with the sweet potato lasagna knocked my socks off and the dessert was one of the best I have eaten this year, maybe in my life.
I can highly recommend this menu to all vegetarians and vegans. Its also pretty awesome for carnivore’s.
