marc and franck

“At La Vierge we agree with Oscar Wilde when he says, “The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it.” Paradise awaits”.

Nothing could have been truer than this last Friday where I was privileged to have been invited to the Foodbarns Chefs Table. A magnificent lunch collaboration between Franck Dangereaux from The Foodbarn and Marc van Halderen from La Vierge Wines.

As a very big fan of both The Foodbarn and La Vierge, this lunch went beyond my expectation. I was expecting amazing food paired with amazing wine, but the day is more than that. It’s an opportunity to talk to Franck about the inspiration behind the dishes and the ingredients he used. To talk to Marc who made all  the vintages and find out more about the wines and how they have developed. You also get to meet table full of fun new people who are all there for the same reason.

A very special experience indeed.

a superb lunch with a lot of laughs

This was a 6 course lunch feast designed for the hedonist at heart and you can expect a very long, fun-filled day.

This was the menu:

And this is what it looked like:

The 6 courses, first course in the middle then going round from top left to right

Each exquisite mouthful and sip lingered long after I set my knife and fork down and I am thrilled that Franck is considering putting the ‘Endive tart Tatin (the first course) with seared oysters in a juniper beurre blanc sauce’ on the menu. This was my favourite course and paired so beautifully with the 2010 Original Sin Sauvignon Blanc. It is also something I definitely want to eat again.

Each course was created with the wine varietal in mind and Marc presented two vintages of each wine to taste and compare.

We finished off the afternoon with the 2009 and 2010 Nymphomane (Bordeaux blend) which kind of set the tone for me and the rest of my evening. But that is another long story.

a lot of beautiful food and wine

The Foodbarn runs a Chefs Table every six weeks or so and each time partners with a different wine producer. Check out their Facebook page to keep informed about all upcoming events and It’s advisable to book early as these special lunches are limited to around 12 people.
