The Spice Route Restaurant, situated next to the Fairview Wine and Cheese Farm in Paarl, explores the romance between spice, food and wine. The culinary voyage focuses on the Spice Route wines, with each meal carefully crafted and prepared to compliment them.

Chef Phillip Pretorius says, “We started this venture by first tasting each of the wines and then deciding on the appropriate food to be served with the wine. We systematically cut down the choices until we had the perfect match and then allowed our creativity to take over so that we could discover just how far it could take us.”

The menu includes exotic dishes such as slow roasted pork belly infused with five spice and served on Madagascar DV chocolate lentil salad, paired with Spice Route Pinotage or Spice Route Chakalaka.Tender roast rack of lamb on olives and pap served with seasonal baby vegetables, chakalaka dusted carrot chips, beetroot crackling, and five spice infused tomato reduction, paired with Spice Route Chakalaka or Spice Route Shiraz. And for dessert, duo of saffron and Pinotage poached pear on poppy seed cake and liquorice ice cream.

  1. My mother and I share a very special bond, after the loss of my father parental roles slipped away. One day I would be the mother protecting supporting her, the next she would resume the mother role but through all the hard times and dealing with everything we grew to become best friends. I learnt far more about the strong, admirable woman she is and how alike we actually are. The loss also shook me completely and made me truly learn the value of parents, they are irreplaceable. I began to treasure my time with my mum (or Mumm as I call her after the champagne because we both like the finer things in life) we started to go out to a new restaurant and explore new meals at least once a month. It was our little ritual, I love to spoil her by taking her out for these meals, fun wine tastings (so grateful for living in the wine route!) or even little things like leaving reassuring notes when I know she is exhausted from work. Being a student still, I can no where near spoil her as much as I feel she deserves but I do try. I would love to spoil with this prize it really is ideal for us and this year mothers day is especially important as it falls on my birthday same as it did when I was born. Therefore I really love to spoil her on Mothers day as it is the day she became my mother!

Would love to spoil my mom here seeing that she has parkinsons decease and turning 80 in august.
She treasurer every moment that she can still go out and eat something fantastic. This can only be better by far from the food at the old age home. I’m the only daughter here in cape town and love spoiling her whenever I can. So I hope I will be able to let her enjoy mothersday at this fantastic place.
