The V & A market on the Wharf is a fabulous new addition to the growing Cape Town food market scene. It opened in December last year and is filled with exciting producers who are very passionate about what they sell. Located in Nobel Square between the Two Oceans Aquarium and the V & A Hotel its easy to access and you don’t have to lug all your shopping around, you can simply drop it off and collect on your way out.
I popped down again over the week end to see how things were getting along and was delighted with what I found. There are a mix of vendors selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables,meat, cheese, to delicious prepared food like dim sum, cakes and steak sandwiches. Its the perfect place to pop in for lunch or an early supper and go home with a few local, organic or artisan food items. The best part for me is getting to chat to the vendors, many of whom make the product themselves. Understanding the origin of the food we eat is so important and this connection is what makes shopping at a market so much more rewarding than a supermarket.
I am not going into great detail about all the vendors there, but rather encourage you to visit and see for your self. I took a few pics to give you a glimpse about what you can expect.
They have a stunning demonstration kitchen upstairs with gorgeous Kitchenaid equipment. You can attend a food demo, cooking class or hire the space for a private party.
