When I got the call to work on a car commercial in January I was a little intrigued. Its not every day a food stylist is needed on such a shoot.
Anyway – what a shoot it was. It involved 8 location changes over two days and included 8 different colour ice creams to match each scene. I had to make ice cream that would swirl into a soft serve, smash (and stick) on a mans face, fall off a cone and drip out of a kids hand. I also had to make one that a dog would enthusiastically lick and had to match them all to specific colour pantones.
I totally love a big styling challenges and I love working with ice cream.
Needless to say as with all TV productions, it was a lot of hard work and very long days that involved pre dawn lighting (yawn) and sunset scenes. I also had a moment when I was standing on a flatbed rig scooping ice cream while we were driving up and down the coast.
The locations were stunning as most of Cape Town is so picture perfect. Gorgeous backdrops of Table Mountain and lovely beaches.
The cast included a lot of very cute kids and one exceptionally cute dog called Bella. Bella is one of the resident dogs on Expresso Breakfast Show, and I am completely and utterly in love with her. She is well trained and did everything that was asked of her
It was a memorable shoot and one which I could not have done without my highly talented assistant Kristy Snell. Shes a total rock star and understands exactly what is required at all times.
We worked alongside a fabulous crew with a very jacked up production company, friendly director and executive producer who had a constant stream of the most exotic sweets on hand to offer us. Maybe that’s why they are called The Sweet Spot Content.
The ad is currently being flighted in South Africa and you can see it right at the bottom of this post.
Deborah Rossouw took all these stills of behind the scenes and the making of the TVC. Miles Goodall is the director, Paul Gareth the production designer, and Linda Notelovitz (the sweet lady) is the executive producer. Draft FCB Johannesburg are the agency behind the brand.

I took a few pics on my iPad on the day too:
