Every Sunday through winter and probably through summer, Bertus Basson at Spice Route will be knocking together an amazing four course traditional Sunday roast. I really should be called a feast though, because an abundance of delicious home-style food is brought to your table to devour. Each week the protein component will vary, but you can always expect 2 meat roasts, some side vegetables – with a few gourmet touches of course, a salad course with something fishy. A soup vibe, bread, pate, and to end off with a decadent dessert. The roast potatoes are straight from a heavenly place and look like they have been cooked at least 2 – 3 times to deliver the crunchiest possible skin and fluffy interior imaginable. Actually I would go back for just the roast potatoes. To coat it all – as if it were necessary, there was gravy, there was cheesy kale and hollandaise for the sirloin. I could say there was too much food, but like a rookie I couldn’t resist the brioche toast with pate and onion marmalade and the fresh foccaccio with the cauliflower soup. I suggest nibbling on those and saving yourself fo the main event. I also suggest not eating before or after this meal and taking along stroll to work it off. With beautiful panoramic views from the restaurant, it couldn’t be a better location to while away a Sunday afternoon with family and friends.
All of this at overwhelmingly good value at R290 per person and booking is essential.
The Menu on Sunday looked like this, but it could also look like this.
*Discalimer ~ I was invited to enjoy the Sunday roast as a gues tof the restaurant.
