I’ve recently been lucky enough to spend some time at One & Only Hotel in the V & A Waterfront. They have a new chef and new menu’s, as well as some exciting events and special offers to keep you warm this Winter. Who doesn’t love some luxury when it’s cold outside?
First up was breakfast at Reuben’s which is something you should keep for a long lazy weekend affair or special occasion. It’s overwhelming and amazing. You will want to order something off their new a la carte menu and can expect dishes such a field mushrooms simmered in white wine veloute with poached egg, Parma ham and tender stem broccoli on ciabatta toast, and savoury waffles, breakfast wraps, smoked salmon and other delicious new items. I was pleased to see a few greens appearing all over. They have a vast buffet set up with everything from oysters & bubbly (MCC), to all the eggs, pastries, fresh fruit, salad, cheese, cereals and seriously every kind of food you want at breakfast. Their juice bar includes freshly squeezed green, red and yellow fruit and vegetable juices, in case you are looking to balance any of the indulgences out, but I was quite blown away by their ‘sweet’ menu. Think sticky toffee pudding french toast, waffles and flapjacks smothered in delicious toppings. I for one am a big fan of breakfast dessert and we simply don’t see it often enough.
Reuben’s Restaurant has just unveiled its Winter Set Menu, available at lunch and dinner. After sampling it all and can say that it is really delicious. My favourite dishes were the Bouillabaisse (probably the best rendition of this dish I have ever tasted), the beef Wellington and the stone fruit cobbler. All perfectly cooked with great flavours and textures as well as all the comfort you want in winter.
Here is the full menu:
Starters: Pulled lamb soup with potato, pea and barley broth OR Bouillabaisse soup with fresh mussels, calamari, prawns and clams.
Mains: Beef Wellington with Shallot Puree, Braised Shallots, tender stem Brocolli, Vanilla Carrots and Madeira Jus OR Pan Seared Kingklip with Mussels en Persillade, Squid Ink, Bouillabaisse Froth, Chilli and Parmesan Linguine
Dessert: Steamed Madagascan Vanilla Pudding, Butterscotch, Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream and Walnut Crumb OR Stone Fruit Cobbler, Clotted Cream Gelato, Blueberry Jam and Brandy Snap.
The set menu is offered at R295.00
If you’re popping by for sweet and savoury spoils, you’ll love the Themed Afternoon Teas – available on the first Saturday of every month. Afternoon tea is available at R295.00 per person, with children under 12 at half price. They also do a morning tea too which has a wider selection of savoury dishes (available only on Saturday & Sunday).

If you like your wine:
One & Only Executive Sous Chef, Chris Mare and One&Only Cape Town’s Head Sommelier, Luvo Ntezo have created the “Chef and The Vine Series” – designed to tantalise the taste buds and awaken your inner wine connoisseur. Don’t miss Thelema Wines on the 28th of June; Hamilton Russel Vineyards on 27 July or Warwick Wine Estate on 31 August. Chef and The Vine evenings are R525.00 per person and can be booked at [email protected].
The One&Only has a gorgeous Spa with its own private garden tucked away behind the pool pavilion. It’s a real oasis of tranquillity and my time there reminded me how important it is to step away from the hustle and bustle and find a serene place to catch one’s breathe. In summer you can float around the pool on cushions in between treatments, or just laze on loungers sipping bubbly. The menu includes light snacks and salads and is served from the pool bar kitchen. This Winter you can treat yourself to luxurious treatment specials and tailor make your own pamper session. Select any 3 ESPA or Bastien Gonzalez treatments for R1250 per person. The options include: Optimal Pro Facial; Back Knead; Body Wrap: Express Manicure or Pedicure; Reflexology; Colour Touch; Paraffin and Foot Scrub and/or a Pressure Point Scalp Massage. The treatments are relaxing and rejuvenating, perfect to put the heat back into these chilly days. Bookings at [email protected]
And, if you are looking for a great location for a cocktail after work, the Vista Lounge is amongst my top places to enjoy a fancy drink at. On Wednesdays, Friday’s and Sundays you can catch a set or two of local musicians.
