stay at the peech hotel in johannesburg

I had the pleasure of spending two nights at the Peech Boutique Hotel in Johannesburg two weeks ago on my week-long food adventure to the city of gold. It was wonderful. The Peech is an owner run hotel with only sixteen rooms centrally situated in the leafy suburb of Melrose. This gem of a property over delivers on the four stars it holds with luxurious rooms and the friendliest staff.
Everyone, I mentioned the hotel to only had amazing things to say. From a friend who stayed there while auditing it for its Fairtrade certification which it holds, to others who have stayed there and all loved it, and to locals who rate it highly as a local little meeting place. The fact that its owner run makes a big difference and James Peech is on hand to ensure that everything runs super smoothly. It’s private, quaint and located in the part of Joburg I like to stay the most. In Melrose and close to Rosebank, Melrose Arch, Sandton and everywhere else I like to go.
They have a small conference facility and the place is regularly used for meetings by local companies.
I was staying in Joburg during a weird (and freezing) weather system with tornados, hail and even snow in parts. Not to mention the thunder and lightning in mid-winter. Most hotels rely on their air con to heat a room which just pumps drier hot air around, killing your skin. At the Peech my room was the cosiest place to be with wall heaters and an electric blanket on the bed. I didn’t want to leave.
The things I loved the most:
- brilliant wifi
- electric blankets and wall heaters
- friendly staff you who interact with throughout the stay
- perfect location
- small yet private feel
There are so many good restaurants in the area, you won’t struggle to find a place and I love Le Patisserie in Illovo for a quick lunch or tea and cake. It’s one of my favourite bakeries in Jozie.
Disclaimer ~ I stayed at the Peech Hotel as a guest.
