The Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff is an iconic Johannesburg hotel with panoramic views over the forest part of the city and I was lucky enough to stay as a guest while on my big food adventure to Johannesburg 2 weeks ago. It was also the first time I had been back since it was taken over by The Four Seasons and given a dramatic facelift.
Despite the vast upgrades and modernisation, the property still has an ‘other worldly’ and distinguished appeal which has always set it apart from other luxury hotels in Johannesburg. Its nestled against a ridge so you can’t really get a better location or better views either.
My room was amongst the most luxurious I’ve ever experienced with a bed that is straight out of my dreams. In fact I’m considering asking them for the specs because it was perfect in every single way. I’m a difficult sleeper and super fussy about my pillows – which have to be down and of a certain firmness and their were 100% spot on. Down mattress topper, high thread count cotton and down duvet, I felt like I was sleeping in a cloud of fluffy perfection and I most certainly did not want to get up let alone leave.
Most of the action takes place in the restaurant pavilion, which no longer houses the pool, but has three tiers of restaurants and outside deck space where you can drink cocktails, dine, eat from a few menu’s or just chill. I ate at View – which seriously has the best views over the city at night and the menu is classic fine dining. Breakfast is served in the same place and you can choose inside or out to start your day.
They built a spa and gym adjacent to the entrance and this is also where the pool and pool deck is now located. So much more private than before. They also have a cute deli underneath which is self-contained and open to the public for ready meals and delicacies. It hs limited seating space, but is a perfect spot for guests who want to pick up something light and casual to eat during their stay.
The Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff is the ultimate luxurious hotel to stay when visiting the vibrant and exhilarating city of Johannesburg. I cant wait to return and sip cocktail on the deck. Preferably during the Jacaranda flowering season, which, in my opinion is when the city is at its most beautiful.
*Discalimer – I was invited to stay as a guest at the hotel
