visit oranjezicht city farm market in cape town

Held every Wednesday evening, Saturday & Sunday day at the historic Granger Bay site at the V&A Waterfront, the Oranjezicht City Farm Market – OZCF Market Day is a community farmers-style market for independent local farmers and artisanal food producers. It’s my favourite place to do a weekly shop for free-range meat, eggs, fresh fruit and vegetables. There is amazing bread from Woodstock Bakery, Puglia cheese, Richard Bosman charcuterie and cakes from Queen of Tarts to name just a few. While I’m there I always pick up breakfast or lunch and eat overlooking Granger Bay and it gets super busy these days so I prefer to go earlier rather than later. It’s also hard to choose what to eat and I love the poached eggs on potato rosti, a steak sandwich from KItchen Cowboys or a Mediterranean feast from Sababa (their shakshuka is delicious). This week I tried the Banh mi for the first time as I wanted to capture a flavour memory from my recent trip to Vietnam and it was very tasty. I can never resist picking up a pasteis de nata from the Hoghouse bakery at Spier because it’s the best pasteis I’ve ever tasted. This is a must-visit food market for anyone living or visiting Cape Town. There is ample parking and a great vibe.

Food markets must be my favourite place to get lost for hours… maybe even days! Spectacular images Sam, doing justice to nature’s best.
Sam this market looks amazing – I’ve never seen lychees still on their stalks like that!
Thank you Sam for reminding me. I have been meaning to get to this market for months – where exactly is it located at the Waterfront – am heading there for sure this month!!! LOVING those pics. 🙂
This market has a little bit of everything! Looks like you could spend all day there. It has given me some inspiration to open up my own stand in my city. Thank you!
Thanks Sam for the time, energy and beautiful images of our Market Day.
Hi Sam, thanks for sharing these lovely, colourful images of the market. Love the soft light. Are they all under some translucent canopy? Gives me the urge to get out, shake a leg and visit the local markets here in Mumbai, India.
Fabulous!
HI – The stalls are all under one large marquee tent.
Pleasure Sheryl 🙂
