When I worked at Nandos many years ago we used to always stay at The Benjamin Hotel when we went to Durban on business trips. It’s situated in the most central and convenient location and right on Florida Road in Morningside. You walk out the front door and are within walking distance of a plethora of restaurants. If you need to be anywhere near the Moses Mabida Stadium, The Kings Park Rugby Stadium, SunCoast Casino, Durban ICC and uShaka Marine World, they are all within 5km drive by car from The Benjamin.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Benjamin two weeks ago on my trip to explore a little bit of Kwa-Zulu Natal and its pretty much exactly how I remember it. The hotel has forty-three double rooms, all air-conditioned with en-suite bathrooms and great wifi – which for me is a top priority. I parked my little rental in their private parking area around the back and felt right at home. Being a small hotel you get to know the staff quickly who are super friendly and helpful. Breakfasts happen in their sunny terrace restaurant overlooking the pool and all the bases are covered from buffet to a la carte.
If you are looking for an affordable boutique hotel in a very central location, the Benjamin is the place for you. Florida Road has become the main party hotspot in Durban so it can get a bit noisy over week ends and the holidays. Request a quiet room at the back if you are a light sleeper. I would say this hotel is ideal for midweek business and solo business travelers. They also have conference facilities if you are needing to organise a meeting.
